So Busy

Fall brings about the feeling of change. Boy, we are a changing! The kitchen is moving slowly and steady. I have been painting and painting and painting. The cabinets are a nice shade of white.
Right now I am trying to decide on paint colors. The color of the kitchen Clay number 1034 by Benjamin Moore.
I am still up in the air over what to paint the dining area??? Maybe just take it up a shade or two??

Here are the couter tops and I hope that they are here by this week :D Finally something that is going to look nice, but keep the mess looking under control.

The flooring should be here this week also. The next couple of weeks are going to be extra crazy! I hope to start having some pictures of the work in progress up soon. Right now it is just way to out of control.

Good-By Blue Eyes

I love this photo of Paul Newman. While you may not be able to see his amazing blue eyes, it is his look of determination while sewing that really melts my heart. So long Paul, we will miss you!!!

Keeping My Eye On The Prize

In order to stay sane while my kitchen is in utter chaos, I have been checking out some fun art work for the walls. So much cool stuff is out there. Here are some of the lovely items I have been bookmarking for later............
I love this "peacock" looking tree. You can even choose the colors. It adds some interest to a space that otherwise is pretty plain. I am thinking in the dining area this would be kind of fun! The best part is that it is a decal, so you can remove it if you want!

Or maybe this would be a fun little item above the bay window in the eating area?!

This awesome print is from a very fun little etsy seller and I think it is my mantra while all this upheaval is going on.

There is so much great stuff out there, I am sure that there will be more ideas being thrown around!

What Now???

In our blog we typically don't discuss much that is going on in the news, however, I think that hurricane Ike deserves some blogging. It is unbelievable to see nature unleash such power and make us seem so small and fragile. While the coming of the hurricane it's path of destruction was being unleashed it was all over the news. We just want to remind folks that NOW is the time to be paying attention those in Texas, Haiti, and Cuba. They are trying to pick up the pieces and recover. Not only physically, but emotionally as well. While most of the major reporters have left town in lew of a financial crisis, there are families and cities that need rebuilding. The American Red Cross is a great place to donate. Check out http://www.redcross.org/

They have so many ways to donate or to get you in touch with your local red cross. They also keep you posted with lots of news and information on their relief efforts. We will now return you to our regular scheduled fluff.

A Girl And Her Kitchen

Our kitchen is maybe one of the most loved and important rooms in our home. We bond and hang out there with friends and family. We now want to give some love back to a warm and wonderful room. We are painting our cabinets white and we will (eventually) have white appliances. As this is not our forever home there are no stainless appliances or granite counter tops in the works. We are, however, going to get new flooring, counter tops, lighting, knocking out some cabinetry to have a more open look, tile the landing floor, and of course new paint.

Some of my inspiration is coming from this little starter house kitchen. I love the warmth and how simple and clean looking it is. I am very excited, intimidated, and overwhelmed all at the same time. It is going to be hard for a while around here with things in chaos, but I am hoping that the reward will be great. The goal is to have all the major work done before the weather is way to cold! The cabinets start the paint process next week, tomorrow we start at The Home Depot!

My Man's Wicked Brew!

What did we do this past weekend? We made some homemade salsa!!! We used fresh tomatoes, peppers, and other veggies from the farmer's market. It was so fresh. A really good meal in itself. We ate it up with lime tortilla chips! We also had some of my hubby's home brewed beer. I think it turned out great! This was his first time trying to brew his own beer. I think he did a great job. He tried an American Ale. It has a nice reddish color and little bite with a fruity after taste. A great beer for the summer. Never stinky, always yummy. The only thing he has to work on is getting the carbonation right. Some bottles were more flat than others. Right now he is researching a brew for the fall. I think he will start brewing that batch within the next couple of weeks. I am hoping for a nice dark beer, but it is his choice as he does all the work! So here is to my hubby and his wicked home brew!

Goodbye Summer Vacation, Hello School Year

I'm a bit late in posting, but I just had to share a few vacation pictures from our last week of summer. We had beautiful weather, warm days and cool nights. We spent many hours turtle hunting and catching frogs. We had a great time together before the craziness began.
So we have now been back to school for a week. The kids have had a good week back, they like their teachers and are glad to be back with friends. Soccer is in full swing, both kids played yesterday and won their first games.

Ch Ch Changes

Among changes going on this week, there was a fun little change that was just for me (and my hubby). We got a new bed! It is actually an older bed frame that has been reworked and re-painted by my wonderful parents. Now it is ours and it sits up high off the ground. I feel like the princess and the pea, only without the pea. Now I am thinking of a new bedspread. So I am looking at fabrics and wondering which way to go...... Here are some of my options...........

From Amy Butler's August Fields collection, this is sunrise in grey. Simple and nice.

I love the color of Joel Dewberry's Ginsing fabrics! I am drawn to this great yellow.

I also am diggin' this wildflower print in stone by Joel Dewberry. It is such a pretty print. Maybe I can do a pillow with the yellow? Oh there is so much fabric to look through and so very little time!!
