These Boots Were Made For Knitting

I was gifted some yarn this holiday season. YEAH!!! I could not wait to get started on a project just for me. After weeks of running around finding gifts for the kids and others, I thought a little something out of the yarn would be just what I need. Cocoknits has some very cute patterns and I feel head over heals for the prairie boot.

I think that these would be fantastic to have on hand at home. With the new floors we are finding that slippers are becoming very important. You can put a hard sole on these and take them out. The yarn that I am using? Lambs pride bulky. You gotta love a quick knit! I have one sole started and I am hoping to get the upper started tonight. I just have to get that gauge thing right!!

White Christmas

Have a very Merry Christmas!!!

A family that bakes together, stays together. What better way to spend an late morning then making those traditional sugar Christmas cookies. I think what made it extra special was having grandparents here. My in laws traveled from the great frozen north (Michigan's upper peninsula) to have some time together. It was time that was much needed. We got our hands nice and dirty rolling out the dough, making our Christmas shapes, and of course eating some dough.

And here are some of our finished cookies. My decorating skills are terrible. The thinking here is that they won't last long enough to care what they look like! Great job everyone.

It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year

for being a crafty mama! I have a secret santa and I think it is safe to post this. For my santa who does so much all year round she and her kiddos are getting some knitty goodness and a few other things. Each kiddo is getting a hat, mom is getting a head scarf, some hot chocolate goodness, and a fun scarf I knit. I found the pattern on Ravelry. It is called One Skein - A Stole

While I did not use enough for a stole, it made a great scarf. You gotta love Noro Yarn. The colors are always so pretty. I also thought that since my S.S lives in Tennessee, she might like something a little lighter. I live by Lake Michigan, so it just seems so bloody cold here.
It was hard to part with, but this little box was fun to put together. I have some last minute items to get together. I just hope that the snow lets up so that we can get out of the house!

Let The Holiday's Begin

The tree is up and the holiday fun will be starting this week! My in-laws arrive sometime tomorrow. It will be a flurry of activity around here. I say "Bring It On!" Besides the usual getting the house in order for guests, I have some knitting to work on and some sewing to to do. Included in that work are the secret Santa gifts. I love being a secret Santa! My package is going to involve some Noro Yarn and of course a head scarf. The boys have some fun little craft projects to work to keep them busy, during a week of people being in and out of the house. It's go time around here, time to get cleaning!

A Very Crafty Day

This has been a very interesting week so far. Today I decided it take a break from the everyday and do a little scrap busting. My in-laws will be here next week for a few days of merriment. Since the kitchen is not finished yet, I thought I would try and cozy things up a bit. I went in the scrap stash and just started to cut and sew some squares together.

Sorry for the poor picture quality! All my fabric friends were invited to the party. We have Amy B., Heather B., Alexander H., Joel D., and more. My goal was to add a little something to my favorite piece of furniture.

I am hoping that the pinks will work out next to such a rusty color. With all the mish-mosh of color, I think it will be okay! The squares make a sort of runner for the "hutch". I do have to find the backing yet. Maybe tonight I can get out the fabric store to get enough fabric to finish off this piece. In the meantime I have a knitting project to work on and a couple of small sewing projects to complete as well. Nothing makes you feel like you are getting something done like busting through some scrap fabric!!

Time To Chill

I am having some frustrations with the R2-D2 hat. It is just not turning out the way I had hoped. I am not a very good chart reader or duplicate stitcher. I may have to come up with something else that is Star Wars like. In the meantime I have a secret Santa knit that I am thinking of starting. I may do some fingerless mitts?? A hat??? The hat maybe the faster knit. I hoping to start tonight.

We have been frozen in for at least the morning. I cannot, for the life of me, get the car doors open. They have been frozen shut!! I have never had this happen before. That is what you get when the rain changes over to snow. This morning we are getting things done around the house and then we will see if we can get mobile later today.

Fresh fruit and berries
Photo by G. Widman for GPTMC

Feeling better around here. This week is off to a bunch of crazy. A whirlwind of a day. It really feels good to finally sit down and stop for a minute. In this crazy holiday rush of a season, I am finding that it is good to stop and take a deep breath. When I feel this way, I tend to turn toward trying new fresh foods and living simple. Simple bread making, fresh herbs, earthy smells of root veggies cooking. I am thinking of thawing out some blueberries that I froze from those warmer days. I also may be asking for a food dehydrator for the ol' birthday. I am doing the research on dehydrators and using them for the family and cooking. There are some really amazing possibilities!

Slow And Low

Yuck! Home from work today. I feel so "slimy". I think it is the nausea. My ears are congested and I feel like I am under water. It is snowing and snowing and snowing outside. The snow looks so beautiful on the trees and houses. It is very clean and soft looking. There much to be done, but I am lacking the energy to do it. I did manage to get some online Christmas shopping done. I also am thankful that I have such a helpful hubby to be there for the kids, work on some laundry and dishes. He really is amazing. I hope that tomorrow is a more productive and happy day!

I finished my latest piece of knits. Mitt Envy is a fun and quick knit. I love how when I get that winter chill I can put these on and warm up. It also helps to enjoy a large cup of coffee. I used some Noro sock yarn that was gifted to me.

I started the boys R2-D2 hat. So far it is knitting up just fine. I am thinking that I am going to try and knit my hubby some knucks. He is always telling me how cold it is in his office. I thought he could put those on and still type away on the computer all day.

C is for COOKIE

Last week we hung around the house LOTS. We are down to one car due to a slight accident. ( I was rear-ended :( no one was hurt!!) So the boys and I made some cookies to help kick off the holiday season! We had a good time in the kitchen and all that hard work paid off!
