She Is All Done!

Wow, seriously I need to get back into the swing of things. Feels like I have been living in the holiday fog, and I am ready to see the light! In order to feel more ready, I have pictures of the holiday skirt. It was my first time working with a satin material, and it went better than I thought. Although there were some tense moments. Used Simplicity pattern 2512 and a satin backed shantung material. Love the color and my favorite part of the skirt are the pockets. A momma MUST have pockets.

This is my second time putting in the infamous invisible zipper. Not the best work, but here's hoping that my rear is not scrutinized to much! All in all I think this skirt was fun and might come out of the closet on more than just a holiday occasion.

I Asure You, I Am Here

I realize that things have gotten away from me, between finishing up the school year, Christmas planning and running around, and just life in general. Despite all this busy, I have found some time here and there to work on some sewing. I am working on simplicity pattern 2512 , view B. I don't know what has compelled me to sew this skirt. We usually don't get dressed up around the holiday's here, but I just really wanted something stylish, fun, and girlie. All I have left to do is the invisible zipper. Some procrastination is going on because I find it a bit intimidating. I have done one before, but not on satin backed shantung fabric. Insert big gulp here! Will try and have it done in the next day or two. Along with pictures. I am thinking that since the hubby and I have a date night coming up, this would be the perfect skirt to wear during the holiday period. Hope that everyone is surviving the countdown week to the holidays!! In case I don't get the chance... HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!!!!

Getting Out Is Important

When the snow starts to fly around here, it is important that we all get out and enjoy. Otherwise that cabin fever builds and THAT is NEVER good. The easiest thing for us is to put on some snowshoes and head out the door. The boys get a chance to breath in some fresh air, play in the snow, and burn up some energy. Burning a little energy makes mom happy!

Snow Day Is No Problem

We survived the crazy weather this week! We were able to stay busy and also nice and toasty. We baked, cooked, and were crafty. I was very excited that my Burda Style came in the mail yesterday. There are some great ideas in the December issue. We also baked cookies and made some ornaments.
The ornaments were fun to make. The two pictured are my attempt at playing with felt and a little embroidery work. J.D. has given his away already! He loved working with the felt and buttons. Rory was done after just 1, but was so proud to hang his on the tree.

I made Ina's tomato basil soup to keep the chills at bay. Seemed like a good thing for winter.
It was very easy and super fresh tasting. Can you smell the freshness?? There are plenty of leftovers, which is great for lunch. Just picked up some crusty bread for some carb goodness and there you have it. All in all it has been nice to relax, take it easy, and have the family home in the middle of the week. A nice treat.

New Knit For Monday

I finally finished up The Darkside cowl. Of course I had to knit it. It has the word darkside in it and the boys insisted that it must be cool. How can I argue with that??!! The pattern was found on Ravelry by Sarah Fama. The pattern was very easy to follow and is a pretty fast knit. You can definitely watch a little TV and knit away with this one. This cowl would not be possible without a stash donation from Ms. Carrie.

Thanks so much my friend!! Love how soft and squishy this yarn is. It is a wonderful tactile experience. The perfect choice for something to be worn up close to your face. Can't think of a better way to start off the week than with a new knit.

Christmas Craft With Kids

I love this time of year. It is chalk full of ideas for crafty fun with the kids. So, what are we thinking for this year?? An easy idea would be some felt ornaments. I have seen some really beautiful pieces of art around blog world. Of course Etsy is full of amazing and one of a kind ornaments. To go with our project one must have yummy treats. Maybe some baking is in order as well. Later this week "they" are predicting a snow storm, so we may have to get out and then settle in and craft while the snow flies. Yup, sounds like a good idea!!

Sewing For The Holidays

I was looking over Burda's magazine this month and I am in love. They have a section of patterns that have been inspired by the 40's. I don't know if it is the beautiful purple or the fun sequence, I love this skirt. Technical drawing is here. A perfect skirt for the New Year! Several pieces look great actually.
I am loving this simple top to go with the skirt. May have to make the slit a little smaller in size, but overall I do like it. So I guess I am on the way tot the local fabric shop to see if I can pick up my copy of the magazine. If I don't get around to actually making the skirt, at least I have the pattern and pictures to enjoy!!
